Southwest Stakes Competitive Quality

Denis of Cork came from behind to remain undefeated on Monday in the Southwest Stakes. After watching the replay several times. The CQ score I'm going to go with is a 2.

The field was big, but the race was very uneventful. The leader was sent from the gate and not only were the fractions fast, visually you could see the horse running all out with powerful strides, the announcer noted that he was sharp down the backstretch. On the turn the leader faded. Sierra Sunset actually rant a pretty good race to chase the lone speed and then take the lead for a brief stride or two before Denis uncorked his winning rally.

Definition #4 fits the best profile from Class of the Field. "An off-pace horse or late-comer catches the leaders near the pre-stretch or stretch all and following a brief challenge and several strides, one horse draw off to win".
