A Good Horse can come from any Track?

With the Sam Davis being the highlight on the Triple Crown Trail.  Let's take a look at where Derby Starters have come from in the past 26 years.

I searched the database for where every horse who started in the Kentucky Derby since 1981 and what track was the "Debut Track"  The results contain a few surprises.  For the record horses from 43 different tracks have started in the Kentucky Derby since 1981.  All horses who made their start in a Europe, Dubai, or Mexico are classified as foreign.  I left the Canadian tracks on the list.

The top "debut tracks" since 1981:

Belmont:  69
Hollywood: 48
Santa Sanita:  34
Saratoga:  33
Delmar:  32
Churchill Downs: 32
Keeneland: 30

and low and behold Calder with 25.

Now the calendar has a lot to do with the top 5 or 6 tracks, especially with Hollywood Park having a long summer meet.  Belmont has seen many classy 2-year olds over the years between both the spring and fall meet.

Calder has traditionally had a long summer and lot's of 2 year-olds races, and they have been well represented in the Derby with 25 starters.

The Tracks with 1 Debut runner include:

Canterbury Park
Sunland Park
Prairie Meadows
Turf Paradise

How about the Aksarben with 5 and Arington Park with only 8.

So those Maiden Special Weight Races at Delaware, Philadelphia and Arlington Park, may be just end up being special down the road.
