Risen Star/San Vincente CQ Scores

The Risen Star ended up as a visully impressive race for Pyro.  His last to first run was explosive, with a quick burst down the middle of the stretch that left no doubt.

Let's get to grading the races.  The Risen Star had slow fractions and a fast finish, which can lead to horses having slow speed figures.

Overall I rate the race a 4 on the CQ scale.  It's a tough race to rate.  But I think even though the fractions were slow, there were 2 challenges in the race.  Z Humor and Visionaire both engaged for the lead entering the stretch fighting each other for a 1/4 of a mile.  Before Pyro blasted by both those late for the victory.

The buzz of this race was Pyro, but Z Fortune ran a very nice race out of the 11th hole, running 4 wide going into the turn and wide down the backstretch, he was gutty in defeating Visionaire down the lane before his stable-mate passed him.  Z Fortune picks up more graded earnings, and may now just need a in the money finish to get in the Derby.  Zayat already has Z Humor in the Starting Gate and still has Massive Drama, Halo Najib, Alaazo and Eaton's Gift as possible starters.

Halo Najib and Globalization battle Monday in the OBS Sales Stakes for 3-year olds.  Halo Najib is very interesting and this could prove a great prep before stretching out and moving back up in class trying to gain some graded earnings.

The San Vincete was hot contested for no reason, Into Mischief came out of the race rank and went to the leader Massive Drama too quickly.  This was far different than in the Cash Call where he came out settled and relaxed.  A half mile duel for these 2 proved to be too much and Georgie Boy passed them both in the stretch.  Into Mischief will do better stretching out, his raw speed puts him into contention too early in sprints.

Georgie Boy ran a nice race and seems to be a good stretch running sprinter.  He may stretch out.  Kathy Walsh will certainly try to stretch him out.

Competitive Quality = 3.  Maybe a 4.  The final time was 1:20 and 2/5 with 6 furlongs in 1:08 and change for the split.
