The Big Brown Bear

Wherever Big Brown goes, thats where Kent D. goes!

The Big Brown Bear will firmly go into Louisville as the betting favorite, barring a 10 length victory next week by Pyro, and on the polytrack that aint going to happen.

Many people have compared the Big Brown Bear to Bellamy Road!  I'm not sure that is the fair comparison.  Here's 2 names for you.  How About Bernadini?  Bernandini won the Preakness with 3 lifetime races and that was only 2 weeks later than the Derby?  Bernadini was by A P Indy and in his Withers he visually dominated the competition, much like the Big Brown Bear did last week in Florida.

Another name to throw into the ring for a lightly raced horse moving up in class, is Ghostzapper, when the zapper stretched out, he got better and became the Ghostzapper that everyone remembers.

Watching Colonel John gallop out yesterday in the Santa Anita Derby was super impressive, this horse is getting good at the right time, has the breeding, has been working out.  It does worry me about his habit of getting shuffled back, it happened in the Real Quite Stakes, the Hollywood Futurity and yesterday in the Santa Anita Derby.  But anyone who watches his maiden win and says se doesn't have any "speed" is just not watching races.  This horse has race horse tactical speed.  When he came into the stretch yesterday, Nakatani could have stayed at the rail, the way he shifted to the outside and then just flat out wanted Bob Black Jack is very impressive.  The fastest horse doesn't always win the Derby.

In fact Pyro has that "I want' to catch your ass" look to him as well, he's a very nice horse and I'm looking forward to his Bluegrass Stakes, it's going to be tougher than people think, because I'm not sure going to the Poly is a good idea with him, they may get a really slow pace, and he may have to stay closer to the pace, much like Street Sense last year, and then Dominican was a better sprinter than him down the stretch.

"Meanwhile" the Big Brown Bear has a hat named after him, a Big Bad Leroy Brown song on You Tube and the pulse of a nation taking him to Louisville.

"if Big Brown can't defeat these horses, then maybe Big Brown isn't who we think he is"

This is gonna be good.
